Product Description
How to balance Yoga practice. As Yoga matures in the U.S., this is a new approach to balance physical and mental health, for serious students and beginners. All yoga forms emphasizing either muscle (Yang) or connective (Yin) tissue. Today, all popular Yoga forms are Yang--muscular. Yin Yoga is unknown, but vital, as a balanced Yoga practice has many benefits, including better preparation for meditation. Yin Yoga focuses upon connective tissue, which does not stretch or respond to brief stresses as muscle will, so Yin postures are held a long time, with the muscles relaxed. Acupuncture meridians are also in connective tissues and Yin Yoga is specifically designed to stimulate them.

Divided into two sections, the second part of the book deals with chakras, breathing exercises and meditation, and is ? fully illustrated ? with clear, concise descriptions of Yoga postures

5 out of 5 stars Great works come in small packages   October 31, 2008

Paul Grilley's book, Yin Yoga, is absolutely straightforward, simple, and effective. As a long-time practitioner of yoga, exercise, and instructor of movement, Paul struck a perfect balance between background and context on the one hand, and practical how-to on the other. I recommend this book wholeheartedly to anyone with a body and a mind, as adding the Yin-perspective into one's thoughts is a fundamental shift in being able to take care of one's body and life.

4 out of 5 stars Perfect accompaniment for yoga class   July 20, 2008
My yoga teacher suggested Yin Yoga, and I'm glad she did. It gives us a written reference for many of the things we talk about and do in class. The author explains the chakras and yin and yang energies. He also gives photos and descriptions of many useful postures, along with some sample routines to try. It might be dangerous to try these postures without a teacher to make sure you're doing them right, but the book is a perfect supplement for my class.

4 out of 5 stars Yipee for Yin!!   January 18, 2008

I really love this Yin, I do wish that this book was bound as a spiral, as it would be easier to refer to the poses during the practice. It has helped my back and hamstring issues so much.
I highly recommend it!

5 out of 5 stars Yoga is new for me   January 8, 2008
Although I've been been physically active since childhood, I hadn't ever delved into yoga. Other than a few classes here and there, I was a total beginner. In fact, I still am. This book was recommended to me by a friend of mine who has been practicing yoga forever and I love it. I truly love it, it has been far more helpful to me than any class or DVD I've ever taken or done. It just feels good.

5 out of 5 stars Educational tool for Teachers & Yogis   March 8, 2007
Paul Grilley's book is easy to undertand and is formatted in a visually helpful way. Cuts right to the chase. No fluff. Helpful to teachers and to yogis who want to learn more about Yin Yoga.
