5 out of 5 stars The bible on yoga   November 30, 2008
This is the excellent book on Ashtanga yoga. It provides all the details (lots of pictures) of the first and second series. Once you've attended class you can use this book to practice at home by just following the sequence.

But don't buy the book unless you know what Ashtanga yoga is. If you want meditation, soft exercises, very deep postures, this style of yoga is not for you.

Sorry for calling it the bible since yoga has a Hindu origin. However, there is nothing hindu in the style of yoga presented in this book.

2 out of 5 stars Oh, it's a PRACTICE manual   September 22, 2008

This book would be wonderful for someone who has been practicing yoga for 10 plus years. Definitely not for the beginner. It's like trying to read a foreign language even though there are definitions in the early chapters. I'm going to try to send it back.

5 out of 5 stars Perfect for the mat   June 9, 2008
I love this book! it has all the positions you can think of, and different ways of doing each one to make them easier or more advanced. I loved how it showed the guy in the book doing yoga poses on cliffs and stuff. It was inspirational (although i won't be doing that anytime soon!) It came in great condition, and quickly.

5 out of 5 stars great tool for deepening or beginning a personal yoga practice   May 9, 2008
This book is an excellent way to explore each of the postures of Ashtanga yoga. It has foundational information about the basics such as breath, followed by each posture with variations, and guides for the standing, sitting, and closing sequences. It is a perfect gift for someone beginning a personal yoga practice or for the student looking to move on to second series postures.
